On the evening of Sunday, August 18, 2024, William “Woody” OConnor, aged 84 led his final dance to be reunited with our God in Heaven, Jesus Christ. William was born to Francis T OConnor and Helen M Kenney on June 14th, 1940, in Boston Massachusetts.
William was an amazing conversationalist and made all that crossed his path feel special. He worked most of his career in the Auto Sales profession and was known to be a sharp dresser and coined the phrase “Cheap as a wooden nickel” where he picked up his nickname “Woody”.
His greatest joys were enjoying the beauty in nature, going out listening to music and dancing the nights away. William was an amazing dance lead and incredibly chivalrous to those he encountered. Woody loved collecting many things but especially coins and stamps and always said that he was just holding them for the next generations. He loved taking long walks, woodworking around his home and sipping a really cold Miller Lite or two.
William is preceded in death by his father Francis and Mother Helen and his first wife and mother of his children, Carol Jean. He is survived by his three loving daughters Lorrie, Leanne and Beth. His sisters, Louise, Margery and June, as well as his nephews Walter, James and Josh and nieces Kim and Mia. Also, his partner later in life of many beautiful years together, Maria Jones whom he adored. William is also the proud grandfather of five grandchildren Taylor, Emma, Ian, Sophia and Julianna.
William will be cremated in Mesa, Arizona and his remains will be spread in Zion National Park where he loved on or around his birth date in June of 2025. William is expected to be released in the park and the cool waters of the Virgina River by a small grouping of his closest family members. From the earth and back to the earth on his day of birth and passing.
Please think of William kindly each time you enjoy the Johhny Cash rendition of “You are my sunshine”. He frequently sang this song to his loved ones and will always be remembered in our hearts with these loving words.........
