Boulder, CO – William “Ed” Lewis, 82, passed away September 7, 2023 after battling dementia and Covid at Rocky Mountain Assisted Living in Lakewood, CO. Ed was born March 7, 1941 in Salina, Kansas, the son of Earnest Edward, and Veneda Marjorie (Merrill) Lewis.
Ed received his Bachelor’s degree from Kansas State and a Master’s in psychology from KU. Following his education, he moved to St. Louis to take a job working for McDonell Douglas, where he met the love of his life, Mary Ann Vrana, who became his wife on August 7, 1965. They spent the next 42 years of marriage living in Colorado and Maryland for a brief time and traveling the world, before Mary Ann’s passing in 2007.
After retiring from McDonnell Douglas, Ed went on to become the senior director of the Colorado Governor’s Office of Energy Conservation, ending his career in a role that highlighted his love of the natural world and conservation. He was a loyal member of the Sierra Club and Nature Conservation, and spent his early retirement years working to raise awareness and fight ovarian cancer, which took his beloved bride before her time.
In addition to his parents and wife, Ed was predeceased by his brother, Ernest Albert “Bill”. Surviving is his son, Michael and his wife S. Kendal; brother Jarold, grandson Zyon, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends that loved Ed for his kind, giving nature and infectious smile.
