The story of
Walt Doolittle passed away March 26, 2024 of liver cancer. He was a beloved husband, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, uncle, and dad to his bonus children. He was born May 21, 1940 to Walter B. and Helen M. Doolittle. His mom gave him the nickname Dude or Doody. Walt lived in the Seattle area all of his life and graduated from Cleveland High School. He followed in his dad's footsteps and joined the Teamsters, where he drove trucks until his retirement in 2009. During his truck driving years, he was the recipient of many Safe Driving awards. If you've ever ridden with Walt in a car or a boat, you know exactly why he earned those awards. Walt joined the Coast Guard and enjoyed 32 years in the Reserves. Over those years he deservedly achieved the rank of Chief. Walt loved hunting, fishing, boating, and Volks-walks with his many close friends and relatives. He cruised in his own boat for many years, exploring the Puget Sound, San Juan Islands, and further north into Canada. Many a weekend was spent at Andrews Bay in Lake Washington. At the ripe old age of 35, Walt met and married Yvette, wife of 47 years. Not only did he marry Yvette, but he also acquired 3 kids, 2 dogs, one cat, and a parrot! His friends and family thought he was crazy and predicted that it wouldn't last. Few knew what he really wanted in his heart. Walt was devoted to his grandsons. All three were the highlights of his life. He loved and welcomed their wives and the great-grandkids into the family with open arms. Walt was thrilled to be a part of the many activities and events in the boys' lives. Disneyland, sports, Eagle Scout ceremonies, high school and college graduations, weddings, and family vacations on their boat are just a few of the many memories he made with the boys. Walt and Yvette enjoyed traveling. Their destinations included: Hawaii, Australia, Fiji, Puerto Rico, Canada, Italy, and The Caribbean. Among his favorites were a small boat cruise to Alaska's Inside Passage and trips to many national parks. Walt could fix or build anything. It was said that "If Walt couldn't fix it, it can't be fixed". Walt is preceded in death by his sister Judy and his brother Jerry. He is survived by his wife Yvette; her children Lou, Wendell (Kim), and Eric (Diane); his grandchildren and great grandchildren Aaron (Zoey), Brandon (Alexa), Carson (Carly), Jordan, and Judah; his sister Nancy; and his nieces Kim (Kendall) and Shannon (Tom). Walt was a true friend, had a great sense of humor, and he will be missed by many.
