2025

On February 10, 2025, our beloved Sister, mother, aunty, niece, cousin and friend to many, Victoria Kolukahi Tapia, known to many of us as "Babe" was called to climb the Stairway to Heaven. There, her presence was awaited by our Father, Son, Holy Spirit and all her loved ones who have departed before her.
Babe is survived by her 3 adult children, Jasenia and Sandy Tapia and Vincent Alvarez. Although they became estranged adults in their mother's life, the deep love she had for her children never diminished during their adult lives. Sometimes a Mother's love for her children can only be a quiet longing and love no one could or would ever take from her. The names of her 3 children remained embedded in her heart as she peacefully departed this lifetime.
Born to Rose Piilani Nuhi (Kane) on September 18, 1962, Babe was raised by her grandparents, John and Rose Nuhi. Survived by her siblings, Irene Abercrombie (Kane), Vivas Kane (Brother), Clarence Kane, Solomon Kane (Moke), Korrielee Kaaukai (Kane) and Lehua Kawelolani (Hanai Sister). Being the oldest child of our mother Rose Piilani Nuhi (Kane), our sister opened her heart and arms to each of us when we were born. She watched over us, protected us and was always there for us throughout our childhood, adolescent and adult lives. Although life took all of us in different directions, her love for each of us never waivered and would give us her last penny if she had it to give. Our beloved Babe is now high above, watching over us as she had always done.
Babe was born and raised in Southern California, where I would call it the "Concrete Jungle". She was by no means a "Nature" type of person let alone lived in an area as such until she moved to the beautiful Pacific Northwest (Washington State-Nature at its Best) in May of 2010. Her journey to Washington State was challenging to say the least, but a beautiful venture she did not regret taking. As she once said, "Sister, I feel at Peace."
True to her sentiment, her peace led her to live life to the fullest for the past 12 years, touching and affecting many hearts with those she worked with and with those she befriended along her life's journey. Babe's journey was not without heartbreak, loss and disappointments, but her drive to live life to the fullest made her strong and resilient and loved by many in the community she resided in for 12 years.
As life would have it, her ambitious work ethic led her down the path of sacrificing her health to appease the corporate position she held. Her nature to always be there for everyone else but her, led to many strokes in a 2-year time frame which then led her to live a life that forced her to be still.
When we allow life to keep us busy with the same old routine day in and day out, we sometimes forget to just live for us. Although it was difficult at first for Babe to live life for her, she did so quite well for the first year living with me in 2022-2023.
The stress of realizing what she had to give up that was familiar to her, led to another stroke, which then led to her health taking a turn for the worse. From 2023-2024, life for Babe became a void, some days not by choice and other days she chose to live in the void. Her memory would reminisce of all the things she once did but avoided living in the moment of what was. Her mobility weakened each day and her presence was fading away slowly.
The day before she knew she was ready to make her departure, her energetic spirit went before her to visit the one last place she was most happy and at peace and to be in the presence of her heart of hearts, her nephew, Gabriel Abercrombie, whom she called "Gabbers".
8:00pm on February 10, 2024, I said to Sister, "Your energy went before you to visit your happy place in Oak Harbor and to see your nephew and grand nephew. Go Sister to your happy place, just don't let your energy frighten anyone in the process." She laughed, shook her head No as a tear rolled down her cheek. At 9:20pm that February evening, the angels waiting, carried her up the "Stairway to Heaven". The peace that displayed on her face was an angelic presence, which led me to believe at that moment, the Angels that surrounds me, was holding her.
This is not a Good-Bye Sister, you will always be present within our hearts. Now fly high and fly free because you are. All of our love is with you now and forever Babe.
