The story of
Sandy Martin, a cherished mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, and sister, passed away bravely on August 29, 2024, at the age of 76 after a valiant battle with cancer. Born Sandra Ann Merver on February 7, 1948, in San Francisco, California, she was the beloved daughter of Louis and Marian Merver, who preceded her in death. Sandy’s life journey took her from the Bay area in California to the welcoming community of Gresham, Oregon, where she made a lasting impact. She moved to Gresham in 1978, and it was here that she found her calling and joy in running her beloved bookstore, Gresham Book Exchange, later known as Dakota Books & Exchange. For many years, Sandy was a vibrant and integral part of the local community, sharing her love of literature and her warm spirit with all who visited her store. Sandy is survived by her son, Blaine Martin, daughter-in-law, Tracy Martin, and her grandsons, Trenton and Zachary Martin, all of Gresham, Oregon. She is also survived by her son, Steven Martin, daughter-in-law, Tiffany Martin, and her granddaughter, Kira Martin, all of Damascus, Oregon. Her memory will also be cherished by her brother, Bob Merver, of Gresham, Oregon. Sandy’s life was a testament to her love for her family and her commitment to her community. Her legacy of warmth, generosity, and love will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered. Rest in peace, Sandy. Your spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew you.
