The story of
Ricky L. Houghton, 70, of Parker, CO, passed away on July 2, 2024. He is survived by his loving daughters, Melissa and Christina; sisters, Bobbie and Karen; and his cherished grandchildren. Born in Denver, Rick's life was profoundly shaped by his passion for horses and the exhilarating world of horse racing. Beginning his career as a jockey in 1976 at Centennial Downs, Rick went on to achieve over 2600 career victories. Though he reluctantly retired from jockeying in 2005, his love for horses led him to a successful career as a trainer, where he continued to excel and make a lasting impact. Rick was known for his unwavering dedication to horses, a passion that defined him. Conversations with him inevitably turned to horses, a subject he could discuss endlessly. Despite surviving a serious accident at Turf Paradise in 1989 that resulted in some memory loss, Rick could vividly recall every race he had ever ridden. His strength and determination were unmatched, reflecting his deep commitment to the sport he loved. At the time of his passing, Rick was surrounded by his beloved family. His loss is deeply felt by all who knew him, and he will be remembered for his lifetime of remarkable achievements. He is now reunited with loved ones and the horses he held dear. Details of the memorial service will be announced at a later date.
