The story of
In Loving Memory of Richard Gregory “Dick” Prevost Richard Gregory Prevost was born on January 8, 1938, in Bristol, Pennsylvania, to Horace and Elizabeth Prevost. The youngest of five children, he faced the hardship of losing his father at just 13 years old, yet he carried himself with resilience, kindness, and an ever-present sparkle in his eye. He pursued his passion for helping others, earning a pharmacy degree from Temple University before making the bold move to Colorado in 1968. It was at St. Anthony’s Hospital that his life truly changed—there, he met a compassionate “blue eyed” nurse named Carol Shade. Love blossomed, and on April 24, 1971, they began a beautiful journey together as husband and wife. Dick and Carol built a family rooted in love and faith, initially welcoming four children—Renee, Greg, Keith, and Stephen—before realizing their hearts had even more room to give. They joyfully adopted Justin and later Hannah, from India, completing their love filled family. His faith was central to his life, and after finding the Lord during the charismatic movement of the early 1970s, he and Carol found a church home at Faith Bible Chapel in 1976, where their faith and friendships flourished. After dedicating nearly 40-years to his work as a pharmacist, Dick retired in 2005 but never stopped bringing joy to those around him. Whether mixing paint at Walmart, writing poetry, playing the piano and organ, or striking up a conversation with anyone who would listen, he had a way of making people feel special. His warm smile, flirting and gentle humor were his signature—little reminders that he saw and appreciated everyone he met. Dick and Carol shared nearly 54 wonderful years together, filled with laughter, devotion, and, of course, countless trips to Dairy Queen. No family gathering was complete without a sweet treat, a tradition he passed on to those he loved. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Carol; their six children; Renee Jens (Ken), Greg Prevost (Amy), Keith Prevost (Sara), Stephen Prevost (Sarah Johnson), Justin Prevost-Schultz (Hannah) and Hannah Prevost; along with six grandchildren, Kaelyn & Amanda Jens, Matthew & Sophie Prevost and Riley and Gavin Prevost. Though he is no longer with us, his love, his kindness, and that unmistakable twinkle in his eye will forever remain in our hearts. In honor of Dick, take a moment to share a smile, say “Praise the Lord” and maybe even enjoy an ice cream or donut, because he would have wanted you to.
