On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, Monty Raymond Vandenberg, formerly of Casa Grande and currently Sun City West, AZ passed at home at the age of 61.
Monty was born in Paris, Texas the third of four children and the only son to Melvin Jess Vandenberg (2024) and Susan “Suzi” (Schmidt) Lay (2000). He was raised in Casa Grande and attended Evergreen Elementary, Casa Grande Junior High and graduated from Casa Grande Union High School in 1981. He married Rebecca Morgan on May 10, 1986. After welcoming their two daughters, the family moved to the valley living in Mesa and Surprise before moving to Sun City West.
In his youth he enjoyed bull riding and worked for a period on a wild life firefighting team. In his leisure time he liked viewing and working on classic cars as well. But most of all he was a family man and wanted to spend any spare time with his family. He cherished those times. He worked most of his life as a helicopter master mechanic starting his career in the aviation industry in Casa Grande at Robert’s Aircraft on Pinal Ave. He truly enjoyed working as a helicopter mechanic. At the time of his passing, he was employed in the engine shop with Honeywell.
Monty is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Becky Vandenberg of Sun City West, AZ, beloved daughters, Casey Holler of Surprise, AZ and Amber Vandenberg of Peoria, AZ; three sisters, Mary Mickael Foerster and Sandee “Peaches” Martinez of Casa Grande, AZ and Jeannie Miller Weyrauch of Tucson, AZ and five grandchildren; Derek and Alison Holler, Isaiah, Alijah and Eniyah Remigio along with many nieces and nephews.
A private celebration of Monty’s life will be held in September in Sun City West.
