Melissa Siegel (Summers), 44, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, at 8:32 PM at the Hopewell House in Portland, with her loving family by her side. Born on August 13, 1980, in Des Moines, Iowa, Melissa’s vibrant personality and kind heart made her a beloved daughter, sister, mother, and friend to all who knew her.
Melissa is survived by her three precious children, Khloey (24), Khayla (15), and Khayden (12), who were the lights of her life. She also leaves behind her devoted parents, Robert and Rebecca Summers, who cherished her deeply, and her older sister and brother-in-law, Angela and Darryl Mendoza, who were her pillars of support and love.
Melissa’s life was one of generosity, laughter, and joy. She was a selfless woman who would do anything for her friends and family, always putting others first. She had a natural ability to make those around her feel loved, supported, and valued. Her presence could light up a room, and her laughter was infectious.
The beach was Melissa’s sanctuary, a place where she found peace and happiness. Many weekends were spent with family and friends at Seaside Beach, where she would bask in the salty air, collect seashells, and create cherished memories. These moments will remain etched in the hearts of her loved ones.
Melissa had a playful and competitive spirit, which shone brightly in her love for games. Whether it was a rousing game of backgammon, a lively round of bunco, or a spontaneous family game night, Melissa’s determination to win was matched only by her joy in spending time with loved ones.
In the past year, Melissa demonstrated extraordinary strength and resilience as she faced pancreatic cancer. Her determination to fight and her unwavering positivity was a testament to her incredible spirit. Even in the face of adversity, Melissa continued to inspire those around her with her courage and grace.
Melissa’s legacy of love and kindness will endure through the many lives she touched. She leaves behind countless memories of laughter, beachside adventures, and heartfelt conversations. She will be remembered as a woman of great strength, generosity, and love.
She is now reunited in heaven with those who passed before her, including her grandfather Robert Winters, her grandmother Dema Summers, and her beloved dog, Mona. The thought of Melissa surrounded by her loved ones in eternity brings comfort to those she leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Melissa’s honor to organizations supporting pancreatic cancer research or hospice care, so her legacy of care and compassion can continue to help others.
Melissa Siegel (Summers) will forever be remembered for her radiant smile, her giving heart, and the love she poured into her family and friends. Though her absence leaves an unfillable void, her memory will forever shine brightly in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
