The story of
Maureen Bumgarner, born December 20, 1944, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2024. In the days preceding her death, she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren, Heather, Caroline (Grant), David, Jason, Dylan, Nate, and Mia. Maureen also leaves behind her sister, Vicky. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lee, and her mother, Maud. Maureen was born in London at the end of WW2 and grew up in Glasgow, Scotland. In her younger years she was an avid dancer, twirling the night away many a weekend at Locarno Dance Hall, on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow. A true Scotswoman, she enjoyed a good cuppa tea, shortbread, and a wee brandy as well as listening to bagpipes and watching her daughters highland dance. She spent her 20’s and 30’s moving back and forth between Dunoon, Scotland and various cities in the U.S. and became a proud United States citizen while living in New York. Maureen worked for many years in real estate, managing large apartment complexes in Queens, NY. Some of her most cherished years were spent in her beloved home in East Meadow, NY where she nurtured a beautiful garden and cooked many Thanksgiving Day dinners whilst the family bundled up and sleepily departed in the wee hours of the morning to enjoy the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Maureen preferred to sleep late and watch it on TV while cooking. Her family and friends remember a strong woman who loved to laugh and was very generous and kind. Maureen wished to be cremated and did not wish to have a funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of her favorite charities, The Smile Train and Mercy Ships, in her honor.
