The story of
Linda Irene Chapman, formerly of San Francisco, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2024 in Gig Harbor, Washington. Linda was born September 1942 in San Francisco to Irene and Seward Chapman Sr. She graduated from George Washington High School and earned a B.A. from San Francisco State University. She was a life long resident of San Francisco until her move to Washington in December 2023 to be closer to family. She worked in civil service for the for the Social Security Administration and for the US Army as an EEO Specialist at the Presidio base. Linda Chapman participated in civic affairs throughput her life as a passionate proponent for tenant rights, historical/ architectural preservation of neighborhoods (particularly Nob Hill) and other social/ political issues, particularly those related to disadvantaged groups in San Francisco. She enjoyed volunteering as a docent for walking tours around San Francisco. Linda was a life long learner and especially enjoyed attending Fromm Institute and auditing courses at other local colleges and Universities. She also enjoyed travel to other countries, was well as art, theater, literature and music. Linda was preceded in death by both parents and her sister, Lois Chapman. She is survived by her niece, Shauna Johnson, two grand nieces and one grand nephew.
