The story of
Lee Howard Collins, age 71, passed away peacefully at his home in Peoria, AZ. He was born to Jack and Judith Collins on Oct. 24, 1953, in Phoenix, AZ. He was preceded in death by his mother, Judith Ann Kelley (Collins). He is survived by his wife, Julie Aungst-Collins; his daughters: Melissa Aungst, Cassandra (Mark)Yavorski, Alyssa (Justin) Sellen, and Amy (Jackson Lester) Aungst; father, Jack Collins; his sisters: Lynn Nottingham and RaeAnn Kelley; his brother, Randall Collins; and 7 grandchildren. He graduated high school in 1971 in Kearny, AZ. In 1972, Lee joined the US Navy as an Interior Communications Electrician. He contributed to the successful completion of Operation Frequent Wind, the humanitarian effort to successfully evacuate over 100,000 people from the Republic of Vietnam in 1975. He was on the USS MOBILE LKA-115, out of San Francisco. He attended Glendale Community College for his AA degree in Pre-Engineering, and received his Electrical/Computer Engineering degree from Arizona State University. While attending college he worked in construction, building homes here in the Phoenix area. He then moved on to Sperry Flight Systems and Motorola as an Engineering Programmer. He was a Computer Software Consultant for Dataweb, Fourthstage, and 3 Dimensional Resources, where he worked on a large project for the NASDAQ stock exchange. He retired in 2018. In retirement he picked up a part time job for awhile delivering propane tanks for Cynch. Over the years, Lee enjoyed going to Rocky Point, Mexico, with the family, where we camped on the beach and the kids enjoyed playing in the ocean. He loved going to the cabin in Crown King, AZ, and taking the quads out for a ride, or participating in the 2 mile 1 hole golf tournament. For many years, he continued the traditional family Pig Roast at the home which was a yearly event. He enjoyed meeting up with the guys to occasionally play a game of golf. In his later years, in retirement, you could find him relaxing in his Hawaiian shirts. Last year, Lee and Julie took their first RV trip, covering 18 states in 3-1/2 months. They visited friends and family across the US. It was Lee’s desire to be cremated and placed at the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix where the Patriot Guard Riders will honor him. Memorials can be given to Lee’s favorite charity: Desert Labrador Retriever Rescue. https://www.facebook.com/share/14yreTzaYh/?mibextid=wwXIfr
