The story of
Keith Richard Signer was born on December 4, 1960 in the city of Chicago, IL. He was the second son of Richard and Rosemary Dickshot. Eventually the family moved to Schaumburg, IL where Keith went to grade school and High School. When he turned 18, he bought a one way ticket to Huntington Beach, California and went on to become a highly skilled CNC machinist for 40 years. He eventually fell in love and married Mary Signer, hence the name Signer. They were together a total of 11 years. His employer was Spiral West, and when they announced they were moving the plant to Ohio, he was like, "No way! I'm not moving back to cold Midwest again!" So, he was offered a healthy severance package to include moving expenses to Murrieta, CA, where his best friend (Joe Pruesell from Chicago) lived. He took a 6 month course in Automotive School and went to work for Joe at his Smog Shop, right across the street from the Temecula DMV. That's where I came into his life, looking to get my car smog certified. I was separated from my then husband, Neil, and on the way to divorce unfortunately. So, I was alone raising 3 small children when we met and after I got my vehicle smogged it began having issues. I didn't know where else to turn but that smog shop where Keith worked. He helped me out several times the summer of 1996. When, once again I had more car problems, I told him he would have to take me to a wedding I was invited to if he didn't get my car fixed. He did get my car running properly, and he still took me to Lisa and Darwin's wedding (10/12/96). From that 1st date on we knew we were right for each other and began our 28 year journey. P.S. He never wanted children, so when he found out I had (3) he changed his point of view. So, we courted for 2 looong, arduous years before he put a ring on the kitchen table the morning of 10/12/98, and proposed. Our marriage was filled with love, passion, laughter, tears, and yes! many challenges. But we kept working at it and made it for the long haul. Keith was a loving stepfather to my 3 kids, Channing, Richie, and Ryan. Channing and Richie were from my first husband Neil, and Ryan's biological dad tragically passed away in a farming accident before Ryan was born. Keith stepped in and played a big role in all of our lives, and although Channing and Richie have their own dad, he still helped provide for and support their lives. Ryan accepted Keith as his father before we even got married. On a bright summer day on the morning of July 6, 2024, my loving husband of 25 years went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ. After a long and painful battle with COPD and emphysema he gave up his last breath while I sat next to him, holding his hand and singing to him. The day before, the hospice chaplain, Danny, and our long time friend Gini Knowles, guided us in a short communion service. Later that night, I baptized my dear husband with Holy Water. Having received these sacraments, and the fact that our son Ryan, had left the day before, I feel that he was ready to surrender his spirit. May he rest in Peace until we meet again. <3
