John William Riley, 62, passed away peacefully on June 25th, 2024 at his home in Arvada, CO. He was adopted at the age of 2 in Arkansas by William (Bill) Riley and Mary Magerl-Riley. John led a very happy, active life filled with family, friends, and many activities. He loved anything with a motor and moving parts! Anyone who knew him, knew he could build anything. You would most definitely see John tinkering away in the garage with all sorts of projects, big and small. John was a big fan of music and enjoyed playing electric and acoustic guitar. Before a decline in health you would find John out in nature. He was a lover of fishing, camping, bike riding, gold mining, gem hunting, rock climbing, hiking, feeding any wild animal, and of course; feeling the wind through his hair on any motorcycle. Even while battling chronic pain, John never stopped being a humble, helpful friend and loved one by many. He always made sure to help those in need in any way possible and to give to those who had less than enough. In 1999, John fell head over heels for Lynnette Sherwood and they were lucky to have celebrated over 25 years together. Through all the twists and turns through life they stood together strong and their bond is one many would envy. John cherished his daughter, Kati Riley (age 32) and his grandson, Elan Kottwitz (age 11). There are many fond memories his daughter will always have and says he is the one who taught her to love the outdoors, to love all living creatures, and to always stay kind. John was preceded in death by his mother; Mary Magerl-Riley, his sister; Megan (Jerry) Riley-Currie, his brother; Jim Perry, his grandparents and aunts and uncles. He will be missed by his Father & Step-Mother-Bill & Ann Riley; Daughter-Kati Riley, Grandson-Elan Kottwitz; Girlfriend-Lynnette Sherwood and her children Brian Sherwood, Sean (Margret) Sherwood & boys, Rennee Goodwin (Kylie & Kalel); Brothers-Jim Riley & Heath (Alani) Perry; Nephews and Nieces-Brandon Currie, Jack Currie, Cedar Perry, Sara Currie, Keira Riley; and other numerous family members and friends.
