John David Maguire, follower of Christ, was welcomed into the world on September 15, 1970, in Glendale California by parents Lloyd and Gloria Maguire. He fell asleep in Jesus on February 2, 2023, in Phoenix, Arizona following a valiant battle with esophageal cancer.
John will be mightily missed by his family, friends, special education colleagues, and students. He earned a business degree from Pacific Union College in 1992 and A Master's in Special Education from the University of Phoenix in 2005.
He was a faithful lifelong member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, serving as a missionary in South Korea, in prison ministry in California, and in media ministry in California and Arizona.
John loved adventure, whether climbing mountains on his bicycle, flying down the slopes on skis, or zipping across a lake in his sailboat. He thrived on the challenge of inspiring troubled students to try, learn, and even graduate. John was a communicator, delighting in discussing the Bible, economics, and politics. He was an expert punster with a dry sense of humor. He is predeceased by both parents and survived by aunts, siblings, cousins, two children, and Rebecca his devoted wife of 30 years to whom he wrote hundreds of love letters.
A memorial Celebration of Life will be held March 12 at 5 pm at Glendale Arizona Seventh-Day Adventist Church. A live stream will be available on glendaleazsda.org/live Memorial contributions may be directed to the Women Pastors Scholarship Fund at Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tennessee.
