James Michael “Mike” McNally passed away peacefully at a hospital in Gilbert, AZ, on April 2, 2025, with his wife, son, daughter and grandson by his side. Mike McNally was born May 7, 1953 in Lisbon, ND, the son of Raymond L. and Geraldine D. McNally. He attended St. Aloysius Catholic Elementary School and graduated from Lisbon High School in 1971. Mike studied accounting at the University of North Dakota for two years, and that came in handy when he operated his business, McNally Construction, in Lisbon for more than three decades. He married Jan Kofoid of Bottineau, ND, on June 11, 1977. They resided in Lisbon, where they raised their daughter Lindsay and son Dustin. Mike was a worker and got his first job at the age of 7, delivering half of his brother's Fargo Forum paper route every day. For that, he was compensated upwards of one dollar a week, which got blown at the dime store very quickly. He had other jobs during his school years, including at Muralt's Hardware and the Hanson Chrysler dealership. But the one that got him started on his life career was with Rotenberger/Kienenberger Construction during his school years. Mike loved putting things together, and there are many houses, garages, additions, and barns around Lisbon that McNally Construction completed over a 35-year span. Mike also loved gathering people together. He and Jan hosted family (and friend) reunions regularly in Lisbon and at their lake home in Pelican Rapids, MN. He lived out the motto, "The more the merrier," and his generosity to friends as well as strangers was well-known. Mike is survived by his wife Jan, Lisbon; daughter Lindsay, Lisbon; son Dustin (Amy), Grand Forks; grandson Kobe, Lisbon; brother John (Kay), Jenks, OK; brother Dick (Mary Lee), Kalamazoo, MI; Nieces Geralyn Nash, Jackie Ankney, Tami McNally, and Karin Kofoid Peterson; Nephews James Lawson; Robert, Garrett, Chad, Ryan, Sean, Jeremy, and Jason McNally; Matt and Mark Hatloy; Jeff Kofoid; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Raymond; mother Geraldine; sister Mary Ann; brother Patrick; mother-in-law Ann Kofoid; father-in-law Henry Kofoid; brothers-in-law Ron Kofoid and Richard Aasand; sisters-in-law Arlene McNally, Yvonne Aasand, Sharon Hatloy, and Linda Kofoid; and nephews Steven and Dean Aasand. We grieve his passing but we also celebrate a life well-lived. He left an undeniable mark on all who knew him. Per his wishes there will be no funeral service.
