The story of
George Leslie (GL) Gifford, 89, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2024 in Mesa, Arizona surrounded by family. George led a very happy and positive life filled with family and friends, living life to the fullest, always there offering support, wisdom, and love. He and his wife traveled widely with family and friends. He was also an avid tennis player for many years and a voracious reader. He will be missed dearly by family and friends. George was born to Barbara (nee McCann) and Leslie Gifford on December 7, 1934 in Ellsworth, Maine. George graduated from U.E. High School, Broome Community College, Rochester Institute of Technology (BSME), Syracuse University (MSME), and Cornell University with a PhD in Administrative Education. He spent most of his professional career as Division Chairman of the Math, Physics, and Technology Dept. at Corning Community College. George was responsible for 17 different programs at CCC and instrumental with College’s use of the Business Development Center and the building and outfitting of the Airport Corporate Park. He is survived by Olga Gifford, his wife of 67 years, two children: Scott (Karen) Gifford and Lynne (David) Fantasia; two grandchildren: Paul Gifford and Nicole (Alex) Lundeen and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Robert and Craig. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Ryan. George and his wife lived in Punta Gorda, Florida for many years preceding his death. A Celebration of Life will take place in Florida and NY at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to Corning Community College, CCC MPT Division, the Spencer Crest Nature Center or the Mesa's Hospice of the Valley.
