Talk about larger than life! Frank Soare was a true original. It was impossible to not love this guy! Possessing an outsized level of charisma and personal charm, as well as a zest for life and adventure. People and most animals gravitated to him and regarded him as a mensch and all around go-to guy.
Frank was born in Glendive Montana, on February 21, 1934. From an early age he developed into part cowboy, part maverick, and part free spirit—who dreamed of becoming a pilot. Largely inspired by his uncle Art Soare, who was himself a professional pilot.
Nothing was more important to Frank than his faith in God and love for his family. Married for 65 years to the love of his life, Jeanette, they remained madly in love, to the end.
In high school he joined the ROTC, as well as in college at MSU. After graduating, he was able to join the Air Force as a jet fighter pilot during the Vietnam era, before transitioning to other aircraft and missions. He was honorably discharged and left after 12 years to become an airline pilot for United Airlines. A job he loved so much—he practically would have done it for free. Over his career, he traveled countless miles across the world, to all continents except Antarctica.
On the home front, he was known as “the cool dad,” handsome, stylish, full of fun and loving. He enjoyed dressing up for occasions, always with his snappy designer ties and favorite argyle socks. As a tremendous fan of classical music and opera, music filled the house with timeless melodies whenever he was home.
Frank was also an avid Harley Davidson owner, who reveled in moments spent on his bike. This is in addition to his being a kind of jack of all trades on the home front—in the best of ways—serving as auto mechanic, carpenter, fine furniture crafter, spaghetti chef, enthusiastic pickle canner, and soup maestro.
It's impossible to cover all the wonderful things he was. We adored him more than words can possibly say and will miss him forever.
