Floyd Eugene "Gene" Warter, age 82, passed away peacefully in his home in Scottsdale on July 28, 2024, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
Gene was born on August 22, 1941, in Globe, Arizona. He was the 2nd of 4 children to Jack and Myrtle Warter. He was predeceased by his parents Jack & Myrtle, older brother Jack Jr., brother-in-law Jerry, brother-in-law Jim, sister-in-law Joyce, and his nephew Steven. He is survived by his sisters Sherry and Darlene, his son Chris (Amy), as well as 7 nephews, 1 niece, 5 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren and many great nieces and great nephews.
Gene lived a very full life. He was raised in Inspiration, Arizona where he worked with his father and brother in the copper mines after school. He graduated from Miami High School in Miami, Arizona, and joined the Navy right out of high school where he served for 6 years - 3 years active duty, and 3 years as a reservist. He was an Airman (E3) and worked as an air traffic controller on the USS Ticonderoga (CVA-14), an Essex-class aircraft carrier. After his time in the Navy, Gene was determined to fly so he got his private pilot's license, and took to the skies. He loved flying and flew cargo around the country for a time.
He was always a ladies man and was married 4 times - Sally, Kathie (Chris’ mom), Sherry, and Patti. He's visited 47 states and over 15 countries including Japan, China, Africa, Greece, Philippines, and Brazil just to name a few. He lived for adventure and was always active. He loved mountain biking, snow skiing, water skiing, motorcycle racing, off-road racing, Formula Ford racing, skydiving, etc. He's done it all. He was never one to hold a W-2 job, and after a brief stint at Fairchild Semiconductor in Mountain View, California, he became a lifelong entrepreneur. He had many businesses including sales, screen printing, van customizations, advertising, racing shocks, and so many more.
Gene was never one to sit in one place too long and his passing was the same. His final complaint was there wasn’t anything good on the TV left to watch. Hopefully now he’s found infinite channels, though I doubt he’d have the time to watch anything. Fair winds and following seas, sailor - may you rest in peace.
