The story of
Eugene Joseph "Skip" Ackler passed away on Sunday, May 26th 2024. Originally from Milford, Connecticut, Skip was born to Eugene and Laura Ackler. Skip lived most of his adult life in Denver Colorado, being very active with the Ridhwan group in Boulder.
Graduating from Jonathan Law High in 1966, Skip went on to study at The Culinary Institute of America in New Haven, CT. He worked at numerous restaurants in Connecticut receiving many awards and recognitions in his field. Skip lived in New Hampshire for a couple years, teaching the art of Mountain Climbing and life skills to teenage boys at the Outward Bound School. He then moved to Denver and returned to school at Metro State University, where he graduated Suma Cum Laude and helped develop the "College for Living" program which is still in existence. He went on to work at the college as the Assistant Registrar for many years. Skip was an advanced Mountain Climber, making the climb up Devil’s Tower numerous times, once with his son Joseph. Skip loved to travel, making trips to Cambodia, where he helped rescue more than a dozen children from a prison. They were brought to the United States, where they still reside in Providence, Rhode Island. He also loved to visit Cape Cod, Massachusetts and always stayed with his sister, Kathleen and her family.
Skip was predeceased by his beloved son, Joseph, as well as his parents, Laura LaFleur and Eugene Ackler Sr., his brothers Ernest Ackler and Michael Ackler. He is survived by his sister, Kathleen A. Bridge and her husband Geoffrey, as well as his niece, Jennifer Doman and his nephew, David Bridge, and his two Great Nieces, Cassidy and Mimi and two Great Nephews, Matthew and Miles.
