E. Darrell Davis, age 71 of Oregon City, Oregon, passed away on August 13, 2024. He died peacefully in his sleep at home under the care of his loved ones after a year and a half of fighting
prostate cancer.
Darrell was one of a kind and we would like to share the lessons he taught us and the memories
we will cherish for the rest of our lives. The world is a poorer place without him.
Darrell was unapologetically himself, and he approached life with a fearless disregard for the
opinions of others. His larger-than-life personality and dry, sarcastic humor made him a memorable presence to all who knew him. He had a strong moral compass with a clear sense of right and wrong and an unshakable confidence in following his own path in life.
He also believed that love is not an obligation, but a profound commitment to those who truly
matter, and the love he gave his family was all-encompassing. He knew he wanted to be a father
very early in his life, and he adored each of his three children (Amy J. Davis, Laura A. Davis and
Daniel J. Davis) from the day they were born. He also shared one of the greatest love stories of
all time with his wife of 33 years, Shea O'Toole. Their marriage was a true partnership, a rare
bond where each found their perfect match in the other. No one will miss his presence more than
Shea, but she is also left feeling full of his love that will carry her through the next chapters of
her life. His devotion was unwavering, and his presence a constant source of strength to Shea and his children. He also gave great bear hugs that will be sorely missed.
A lifelong learner, Darrell was intellectually curious with a deep interest in science and technology. He graduated with honors from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 1978 and enjoyed a long career as an attorney in St. Charles, Missouri before retiring with Shea to the Pacific Northwest in 2016. Outside of his work, he was an avid reader and an early adopter of any and all new technologies.
A lover of the outdoors and a passionate advocate for the world around him, Darrell found joy in nature. He was a devoted animal lover and became a vegetarian later in his life, driven by a deep compassion for animals and commitment to an ethical lifestyle. He also became an enthusiastic swimmer during retirement, and some of our fondest memories are being with him in a pool during the summer, snorkeling with him in Hawaii and kayaking the Willamette river. His commitment to caring for the world and its creatures was evident in every aspect of his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved dogs, including his soul dog Zoe Davis. We hope he is
with them all now and that he can feed them as many treats as he wants without Shea having to
put them on a diet.
As we prepare to spread his ashes, we take solace in the countless ways Darrell touched our lives. His legacy will continue through the lessons he taught us and the love he shared.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Oregon Food Bank or the
Oregon Humane Society in memory of Darrell.
Please join us in remembering and celebrating Darrell.
