The story of
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Craig Allen Chastain, known by his band brothers as "CAC," who left this world on August 24, 2024, at the age of 78 in Des Moines, Washington. Born on April 28, 1946, in La Mesa, California, to Russell and Barbara Lois Allen Chastain, Craig's early years were filled with the love of his small family. He grew up in South Pasadena, forging a special bond as a fishing, camping and Scouts’ partner with his father and grandfather, who instilled in him the values of patience, perseverance, and respect for nature. Craig's journey included achieving the honorable rank of Eagle Scout, reflecting his commitment to excellence and service to others. Craig is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathy Ann Chastain, sister, Lynn Chastain, daughter, Erin Matayoshi, son -in-law Ryo Matayoshi, his sons, Jeremy Brewer with his wife Kristi Brewer and Les Brewer with his wife Elie Yazdani. Survived also by his grandchildren: Hunter, Hailey, Tanner, Dane, Rowan, and Cora. Described as a man of many talents, Craig graduated from South Pasadena High School with several college scholarships. Craig was a graduate of Willamette University where he honed his skills as a musician, discovered his passion for humor writing and formed lifelong friendships. An accomplished author and humorist, he enriched the lives of those around him with his creativity and wit. Craig's contributions to society extended beyond his artistic endeavors; his eloquence as a public speaker, teacher, mentor coupled with his active participation in organizations such as Toastmasters and Rotary of Des Moines-Normandy Park, left an indelible mark. Craig's was best known for his kindness, love, and unwavering loyalty, he epitomized the role of a devoted husband, father, and man of God. His legacy of compassion and steadfast devotion will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. Craig will forever remain a beacon of light and love, guiding us all to live with grace, integrity, and a profound sense of gratitude. In honor of Craig's remarkable life, a Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday October 12th, 2024, 4pm – 7pm, at the Beach Park Event Center – Dining Hall Bldg. 22030 Cliff Ave South, Des Moines, WA 98198.
