On the afternoon of Tuesday, April 15, 2025, Cherryl Eckley (Cassel), aged 67, peacefully left us at her home. She was born to James and Vera Cassel on September 4, 1957, in Globe, AZ. Cherryl was an accomplished drum maker and community drum keeper, having joined the Whirling Rainbow Foundation's Drum for Change initiative in 2010. She attended a transformative workshop in Peru, which deepened her passion and commitment to the foundation and led her to become a community drum keeper. Her greatest joy was seeing her workshop participants embrace the art of drum making and the spirit of community. When she wasn’t making drums, Cherryl loved spending time with her family and friends, sharing stories, and enjoying the beauty of nature. She worked tirelessly to earn her associate's degree in agriculture while living in Maui, demonstrating her dedication to education and personal growth. After achieving her degree, Cherryl dedicated her life to holding drum-making workshops and inspiring others to connect with their creativity and heritage. Her warmth, generosity, and spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her son Jason Kinsel, daughter Rebecca Kinsel, mother Vera Cassel, brother Mark Cassel, and her cherished grandchildren Trevor, Alieah, and Memory.
