Carol Beth Goodwin passed away on December 13, 2023 from complications from heart surgery. She is survived by her husband, John Matthew Goodwin, her sisters Janet Light, Frances Karavas, Edna Rackley and their children.
Carol was the youngest of four daughters to Ernest and Mary Huffington. She was born in El Paso Texas and graduated from high school in Presidio Texas. She earned a college degree at UTEP (University of Texas in El Paso) and worked for years as an accountant. She recently retired from Conoco Philips. Previously, she lived in El Paso and Dallas Texas, as well as Bartlesville Oklahoma.
Carol had the most beautiful smile Her laugh was infectious, and she could and did find humor anywhere. She loved, supported and raised her nieces and nephews like her own children. Carol taught us to “own your bullshit” and also laugh at yourself. She also loved and supported her YWD (Young Women's Division) and SGI (Soka Gakkai International) members. Her generosity knew no bounds. Carol loved cats, and spent much of her time volunteering and caring for newborn kittens and helping with TNR (trap-neuter-return) efforts in her community. She shared a love of quilting with her big sister, Janet. With all she did, she found time to make little quilts for all her kittens to take with them to their forever homes.
Her memorial will take place at the SGI Phoenix Cultural Center, in Phoenix Arizona on January 20, 2024. In lieu of flowers we ask you to adopt a cat. It’s what Carol would have wanted.
