The story of Vernon
VERNON D. STAGGS JR. Vernon D Staggs Jr., “D” to his childhood family and friends, received his call home to be with the Lord January 19, 2023. He was born in Ray, Az. On March 30, 1942 and raised in the San Manuel, Redhill, Mammoth, Oracle areas of Az. He had the richness of a large extended family in his every day living. Back in the day he was known as ‘a dad to all’ by his children’s friends, being there for everything from sports events to backyard ‘Hey dad, how do you do this’ projects. Thus the term of endearment, the name ‘Heydad’ became permanent. He loved dune buggies and car projects, helping his Dad with projects, hunting, fishing, horseshoes, family camping, bowling, golfing, story telling, playing games and cards at family gatherings. He maintained the family legacy of continually learning, growing and mentoring to others his entire lifetime. Vern was always wanting to help others and teach them the things he knew to help them in their lives … He was dedicated to acquiring skills, honing them and sharing the things he knew with others, be it family or friends. This was a guy who couldn’t sit still. Vern loved his family and all his family time. He was proud of watching his children grow up and develop into the individuals they have become, reaching goals they have personally set and passing the Staggs integrity on to another generation. The list of adjectives that can describe this man is endless: honest, kind, loving, generous, handsome, compassionate, spiritual, trustworthy, principled, moral, authentic, complimentary, funny … a true southwest ‘Gentleman’. Vernon Staggs had a diverse professional life including welder boilermaker, divisional maintenance manager at Magma, industrial maintenance management consultant with Rushton International traveling in Brazil, Tunisia, Indonesia, Philippines, Canada and the United States, and maintenance master mechanic with Asarco Inc. He was a business owner and developer on many fronts: filling station, hydraulic sales and service, realtor, project manager, and residential and commercial contractor with a passion for excellence in design and building. He was truly a ‘jack of all trades and a master of all trades’. Vernon was proceeded in death by: his mother Jeane Staggs (Hedrick), birth mother Wanda Wright, father Vernon D. Staggs, stepmother Ruby Dell Staggs, sister Kay Ann Staggs (Vancas), and son Bryan K. Staggs. Mr. Staggs is survived by: his soulmate Marcia Ellis and her son Sean Ellis of Tucson, daughter Kari Archuleta (Bernie) of NM, son Jason Staggs (Lina) of Tx, sister Patricia Staggs Roy of NV. His grandchildren are spread throughout the States: Josh Provence (Amanda), Timm Dilling (Heather), Kris Dilling, Ryan Staggs (Kendra), Rachel Nelson (Andrew), Justin Staggs, Austin Staggs, Lindsey Johnson (Tobin), Jaycee O’Neal (JD), Corbin Adams. Great grandchildren include: Jay, Mckynzi, Stetson, Brooke, Bryson, Jayden, Ava, Macey, Leela Rose, Charley Tate, Natalynn, Addison, Gabby, Emma, Colton, Raelea, Remington, Ryker, Kaelynn, Sawyer, Isobel. Nephews and nieces are Marshall, Michael, Sean, Mara, and cousins and great nephews and nieces beyond my ability to list.
