The story of
Nancy Cecile (Sprouffske) Roberts, age 83, passed away peacefully in her home in Rainier, Washington, surrounded by her loving family on December 28, 2024, at 5:05 a.m. Nancy is now resting in the arms of the Lord she so faithfully served throughout her life. Born on August 6, 1941 in Puyallup, Washington, Nancy was the eldest of four born to Frederick and Ethel-Faye (Lott) Sprouffske. She grew up in Roy, Washington, before moving with her family to Rainier at the age of 6. A proud graduate of Rainier High School, class of 1959, Nancy built a life grounded in faith, family, and service to her community. Nancy's career included a variety of roles, from part-owner and bookkeeper at Sprouffske Tree’s Inc. to a brief time as a Mary Kay consultant. Her love for photography, particularly capturing the natural beauty of her surroundings, led her to create bulletins for the local church and calendars that showcased the stunning landscape of the God’s creation. A talented pianist, she was an active participant in church services and regularly played at Rainier Chapel. Her musical gifts were matched only by her dedication to serving others, whether leading a prayer group or volunteering with the Rainier School District and the Rainier Historical Society. Nancy's greatest joy came from her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and her home was a gathering place for those she cherished. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she found immense fulfillment watching them grow, especially on the family’s Christmas tree farm. A woman of deep faith, Nancy always put her trust in the Lord, knowing that with His guidance, no challenge was too great. She had a sassy sense of humor, a quick wit, and a heart of gold. Her love for nature, crafting, and her devotion to her family left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Nancy is survived by her children: Aliiolani Naipo, Keola Roberts, Lei Kukui Wheeler Callahan, Mokihana Roberts, Sandra Ballenger, Punalei McLean, Wayne Ballenger, and Jim Roberts. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, William Roberts, as well as her children Kulani Roberts and Hinano Roberts. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held on January 25, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Rainier Chapel, with Pastor Michael Wolfe officiating. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be streamed live on Facebook at Rainier Chapel: https://www.facebook.com/Our.Rainier.Chapel/. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Rainier Chapel (https://www.rainierchapel.org/giving) to support the community that Nancy so lovingly served. Nancy's legacy will live on in the hearts of her family, her community, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a woman who gave of herself freely and with love, and her memory will be cherished forever.
