Obituary: Myers Allen Evans: January 14, 1940- June 27,2023 Myers Allen Evans AKA: “ Sam/ Sonny” transitioned at home in Phoenix, AZ on Tuesday June 27, 2023. Myers was born in Atlantic City New Jersey to Walter P. Evans and Geneva Garrett, he was the last born of eight children. As a child he excelled at both baseball and boxing and served in the New Jersey national guard. On August 10th 1968 he married Ada D. Eberhart at St. James AME church in Atlantic City. He served as a sergeant in the Atlantic City Police Department for 25 years assigned in both narcotics and homicide divisions, where he received numerous awards. Mr. Evans was an active member of the local community in Atlantic City where he trained troubled youth in the sport of amateur boxing at the Police Athletic League,” PAL” helping several young fighters attain national Championships. Myers was also an avid traveler: Driving across multiple states in the USA, as well as visiting the several islands in the Caribbean, Central America, and Southern Africa. Most importantly, Myers was a very loving father, husband and excellent provider for his family. He was widowed in 2017 with the passing of his wife of 50 years. He is survived by his daughter Marla-Tiye Vieira and son Hassan Ansah of Palm Springs, CA as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews. There will be a small private viewing at the Faith Missionary Baptist Church in South Phoenix AZ on Saturday July 29th.
