Kathy Joo Toone, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on September 14, 2024 at the age of 59. Born on March 12, 1965, in Seoul, South Korea, Kathy overcame many early challenges, becoming orphaned at a very young age. Her life changed when, at the age of five, she was brought to the United States. When Kathy was seven, she was welcomed into the loving home of Ron and Jeanette Toone, who legally adopted her at the age of 11, providing her with the love, support and encouragement she needed to thrive. Kathy's life was marked by beauty, both inside and out. In 1983, she was crowned Miss Dunedin, a title that launched her into the world of fashion. Her stunning looks and magnetic presence led her to a successful career as a fashion model, gracing both print and television. Family was the cornerstone of Kathy’s life. She married Scott Conforti, right after high school. Prior to divorcing, they welcomed three cherished sons together: Scott Jr., Chad, and Niko. Kathy was a devoted mother, selflessly giving her love, guidance, and support to her boys. Her joy expanded when she welcomed her grandson, Bruce, who became a bright light in her life. Kathy spent the last 26 years with her second husband, Paul Cumming. Their journey as a married couple was a testament to the enduring love and commitment they had for each other. Kathy was inspired by the words of Marianne Williamson. She truly believed that each of us is powerful beyond measure and that we are all meant to shine. This belief guided her in her relationships and the love she gave so freely to others. Kathy’s kind and generous spirit was felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She had an uncanny ability to connect with people, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met. Kathy was predeceased by her mother, Jeanette Toone. She is survived by her devoted husband, Paul Cumming; her three sons, Scott Conforti Jr., Chad Conforti, and Niko Conforti; her grandson, Bruce Conforti; her siblings, Diana Bevan, Dennis Toone, Phillip Toone, Timothy Toone, Terry Toone, and Rebecca Harman; and her father, Ron Toone. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her kindness, love, and the light she brought into the world. As we celebrate Kathy’s life, we honor her enduring legacy of love and the indelible impact she left on all who were fortunate enough to know her.
