Doctor Jill S. Brody peacefully passed away on March 12th, 2023 at her home in Denver, Colorado, surrounded by family and friends.
Born September 18th, 1952 in New York City to parents Jeanne and Selwyn Brody, Jill joined sister Patricia, and later came brother Tom. Jill grew up in White Plains, NY and through her adolescence and early twenties, she explored the bohemian lifestyle. She attended Woodstock at the age of 16. She moved to San Francisco in the early 1970s and had friends from all walks of life, living on the corner of Haight and Ashbury streets. On a whim, she moved to Taiwan for several months, traveling and teaching English. Despite her wild-child ways, Jill went on to earn her undergraduate degree in anthropology from UC Berkeley. After a brief stint waitressing, she realized she wanted to pursue a fulfilling and challenging career in medicine.
While completing prerequisite courses at Brandeis University in Massachusetts, she met a long-haired, funny, and brilliant guy named Ralph ‘Nick’ Camp. He helped tutor her in some of her science courses while completing his own PhD in chemistry. The two were married in 1979 at Jill’s parents’ house in White Plains. Jill and Nick moved to Buffalo, NY where Jill went to medical school – one of few women in her class at the time. Jill went on to complete her residency in internal medicine at Tufts University in Boston. In 1985, Jill and Nick had their first child, Michael. Their second, Sabrina, came in 1988.
Over the course of the next three decades, Jill established herself as a primary care physician in the suburbs of Boston. She served thousands of patients throughout her career. Her patients adored her for her compassion and thoughtfulness. Jill was incredible at connecting with people – she had the ability to make them comfortable and trusting within just a few minutes of meeting. Vibrant and kind, she made fast friends wherever she went, whether in line at the grocery store or strolling through the dog park.
Jill was an avid gardener, dog lover, and world traveler. Nick and Jill made it a priority to have a warm and welcoming home for all. They supported each other and their children with infinite, unconditional love. In 2013, Jill was unexpectedly diagnosed with kidney cancer. She bravely fought for the next 10 years, living far beyond the expectations of every physician who treated her. Nick preceded her in death by 3 years; one of her final wishes was to simply be with him.
Jill is survived by her children, Michael and Sabrina, her brother, Tom and sister, Patricia, and of course, her beloved dog, Lily.
