The story of
Grant Wayne Bates, born on May 17, 1968, in Pueblo, Colorado, passed away on August 11, 2024, after a courageous five-year battle with cancer. He was surrounded by love throughout his journey and left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Grant was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Petrina Bates, and a loving father to his children, Hailee Bates, Tucker Bates, Jessica Lundy, and Joshua Lundy. He was the cherished son of John and Cindy Windholz and Gary and Amber Bates, and a caring brother to Kelly Bates, his wife Emily, and their children Brandon, Kristen, and Cassandra. Grant’s life was filled with joy, laughter, and the warmth of those he held dear. An avid sportsman, Grant found great pleasure in playing golf, softball, and basketball. His love for these activities was only surpassed by the love he had for his family and friends. He was a man of integrity, kindness, and compassion, qualities that endeared him to everyone he met. Grant’s smile was infectious, and his presence brought light to even the darkest of days. As we remember Grant, we find comfort in the words, “If I could reach up and hold a star for every time you’ve made me smile, the entire evening sky would be in the palm of my hand.” His memory will forever shine bright in the hearts of those who loved him. Grant Wayne Bates will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to inspire us all.
