The story of
Dr. Frank Konishi passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 15, 2024 in Scottsdale, AZ. He was born in Ft. Lupton, CO in 1928 to George and Wai Konishi and was the 4th oldest out of 13 children. Raised on a dairy farm in Platteville, Frank graduated as Valedictorian from Platteville H.S. and attended Colorado A&M (CSU) receiving both Bachelors and Masters degrees with Honors in Agriculture and Nutrition. He later received his PhD from Cornell University in Nutrition. Frank also joined the ROTC in H.S. and later enlisted in the U.S. Army where he advanced through the ranks and retired as a Colonel in the Army Reserve. As a Professor, Dr. Konishi was a brilliant teacher who became Chairman of the Food and Nutrition Dept. at Southern Illinois University where he conducted research and taught classes for 22 years. He retired to Boulder, CO in 1983 where he was a Professor Adjunct at Colorado University for another 14 years. He especially loved teaching, his mantra was "to teach is to touch a life forever" and there are countless students and faculty members whose lives he touched. In his spare time, Frank was an excellent craftsman, dabbled in auctioneering, taught himself how to play the piano and loved spending time with his family. Frank also had a very generous heart and great sense of humor. He received many accolades during his life but if you asked him what his greatest accomplishment was, he would say it was marrying his wife Gladys that lasted for 64 years. She preceded him in death in 2016. Frank is survived by his 3 children Gayle (Don) Goodman of TN, Greg (Stephanie) Konishi of AZ, and Laura (Rick) Konishi-Pease of AZ as well as his 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 3 sisters and 2 brothers. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
