Earl Anthony Rodriguez
February 10, 1941 – November 20, 2024
Earl Anthony Rodriguez passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024, at a Veterans senior care facility in Pico Rivera, California. He was 83 years old.
Born on February 10, 1941, in Los Angeles, Earl was the first child of Carlos and Virginia Rodriguez. He grew up with his sister Ginny and brother Joe. Tragedy struck in 1946 when Earl was just five years old; his mother passed away, and his father left to join the Merchant Marines. Earl and his siblings were separated and placed with relatives in the Los Angeles area.
At 18, Earl joined the U.S. Army, where he served in Korea. His military service taught him discipline, structure, and resilience, shaping his determination to build a better future. Upon returning home, Earl earned a bachelor's degree from Cal State LA and began a career in accounting.
Earl married Lillian and had two children, Virginia and Pat, before they divorced. He later married Janice, who had two children, Doug and Alicia, and together they had two more daughters, Carolina and Teresa. The blended family created a home in Highland Park before moving to Pasadena.
A proud Mexican-American, Earl was deeply inspired by the social justice movements of the 1960s and 70s. He taught his children the values of equality, compassion, and activism. He supported Chicano activism, marched alongside César Chávez, and attended the rally for Bobby Kennedy on the night of his assassination.
Earl's entrepreneurial spirit led him to leave his accounting job to pursue various business ventures. He believed education was "the great equalizer" and was dedicated to providing opportunities for his children to succeed.
Earl is survived by his brother Joe, ex-wives Lillian and Janice, and his six children: Virginia, Doug, Alicia, Pat, Carolina, and Teresa. He was predeceased by his sister, Ginny.
Earl's life was marked by perseverance, ambition, and a deep commitment to social justice. He will be remembered as a man who overcame adversity and sought to help others.
A private service will be held in Earl’s honor at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles, where he will be laid to rest alongside his mother and other beloved family members.
