The story of Daniel
Daniel K. Michals, 78, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 19, 2022, in Brighton, Colorado. He was born to Floyd and Ardith Michals in Furnas County, Wilsonville, Nebraska, in 1944. Dan led an active life. He was a Vietnam veteran, a team roper and single steer roper, and a scuba diver, all the while having a 35+ year career in law enforcement where he worked organized crime and narcotics, undercover. He was a graduate of the DEA National Academy in Washington, DC. His last years were with the District Attorney offices of Adams County and Pueblo County in Colorado. Dan is preceded in death by his father, Floyd; his mother, Ardith; his sister, Maleta; and great-grandson, Landen Ensing. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, whom he met in college, Jane; their 2 children, Adell (Dax) Heitman and Sam (Lisa) Michals; a sister, Sherry (Robert) Kerbel; and Ben (Pam) Zak who was considered a son; 5 grandchildren, Jordan and Raegan Heitman, Zak and Ryann Michals, Brittney Lang and great-grandson, Graysen Ensing. It was Dan's wish to be cremated and buried at Fort Logan military cemetery in southern Denver. A "Celebration of Life" will be held in his honor at a later date.
