The story of
Steven L. Chapin, 71, passed away peacefully with his beloved wife by his side on February 21, 2024, in Sun City, Arizona. He was born to Leonard and Elsie Chapin in Willmar, MN on December 20, 1952. Steve led a happy, adventurous life filled with family, friends, and many activities. He was passionate about music, where he spent many years playing drums and vinyl records. Steve expressed his creativity through story-telling, photography, painting, and projects using things he found in nature. He especially loved tending to his countless flowers, plants, and trees and sharing the beauty of his efforts with loved ones. After graduating from New London-Spicer High School in 1972, Steve served our country in the Vietnam War where his passion for percussion made him a very talented morse code communications specialist. In 1980, Steve married Gloria Cuka, and together they shared their three children and his pride and joy; Andrea Schminke (Steve) of Ramsey, MN, Jenna Dailey (Tom) of Elk River, MN, and Josh Chapin (Alyssa) of Willmar, MN. In 2006, Steve married the love of his life, Corrine Cook, with whom he built a beautiful life of adventure, memories, and endless laughter. Corrine made Steve the happiest man on Earth, giving him unconditional love and care. He was blessed with four stepchildren; Joelene Wieling (Allen) of Melrose, MN, Jackie Garrison (Eric) of Freeport, MN, Janelle Garrison (Evan) of Walker, MN, and Zachary Garrison (Alea) of Little Falls, MN. Steve was a proud “Grampa” to his grandchildren Brooklyn, Gavin, Isaiah, Emmitt, Camden, Lennie, Cole, Trevin, Desirae, Hayden, Morgan, Brooke, Wyatt, Natalie, and Brian, along with great-grandchildren Mia and Bellamy. He is survived by his wife Corrine Chapin of Sun City, AZ; sisters Janice Anderson and Charlotte Chapin of Richfield, MN; Patsy Parkin-Valandra (Steve) of Appleton, WI, and Karen Hagemeier (Lloyd) of Spicer, MN; his children, stepchildren, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Elsie McLaughlin and Leonard Chapin, and his brothers Charlie Chapin and Lenny Chapin. There will be a celebration of life in Arizona on March 6th at 3:00pm at 12180 W Palo Brea Lane, Peoria, AZ. There will also be a celebration of life in Minnesota on March 18th at Harvest Church in Freeport, MN. The visitation is at 1:00pm with the service beginning at 2:00pm.
