The story of
Katherine Davis Cooley, 82, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2024 in her Assured Serenity Assisted Living home in Lakewood, Colorado. She was born on March 17, 1941 in Newark, New Jersey and later adopted by Paul G. and Lillian K. Davis in 1943 and grew up in Hackensack, New Jersey with her adopted siblings Bonnie and Ted. Kathy was a loving mother to three children, Sheryl Palmer (Michael Heaton) of Granby, CO, Patricia Winslow (David) of Milton, WA, and Kenneth King (Karen) of Puyallup, WA. Ken lost his battle with cancer on June 18, 2018 and was undoubtedly one of the first to greet her when she began her next “great adventure.” Kathy was also grandmother to eight: Mikaela Schmitt of Seattle, WA, Cassie Simeona (Michael) of Edmonds, WA; Laci Ward (Terry) of Buckley, WA, Jordan Fandel (DJ) of Lompoc, CA, A.J. King (Megan) of Edgewood, WA, Nathan McDaneld of Bonney Lake, WA, Jillian/Cherry Trachte of Bellingham, WA and Chris Taglieri of Denver, CO, who visited his grandmother regularly the past three months after she relocated to Lakewood in December. She was also great-grandmother to seven: Cade, Grayson, Hallie, Sloane, Mason, Easton, and Adelynn with two more on the way. Kathy led a very happy, active life filled with family, friends, and many activities, such as: cross-stitching, quilting, basket-making, and sewing. She also loved to travel, camp, and go to the races with her loving husband of 25 years plus – Bill Cooley who proceeded her in death on June 1, 2010. Kathy attended American University but never completed a degree. But that did not stop her from making her mark as a career woman. She worked for American Airlines for a number of years until the family relocated from Northern Virginia to Pennsylvania where she shifted gears. She worked hard and thrived in a variety of career fields in a number of different states, including real estate, the mortgage industry, and property management. Kathy’s ashes will be interred with her husband Bill Cooley at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery on Wednesday, June 5. To help honor and remember Kathy’s life, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association as her daughter Sheryl Palmer attempts to ride 200 miles during the month of March to honor her mom and help end this horrible disease. https://www.facebook.com/donate/1786771105140226/10229487634408795/
