The story of
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Joan Margaret Battista of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, who passed away on February 25, 2024 at the age of 81. Family and friends are invited to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family. She was predeceased by her parents, John Timmons and Lucille (Rossini) Timmons; her beloved son Frankie, and sister-in-law Mary Lou Battista. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Plewa (Ray) of Phoenix, Arizona, twin grandsons, Troy and Tanner Plewa of Scottsdale, Arizona, brother-in-law Joe (Angie) Battista, sister-in-law Gerri Fiore, loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. Joanie was a graduate of South Hills High School, where she was voted most likely to succeed. She had a very strong Catholic faith and was devoted to her family and friends. She retired from the Pittsburgh Public Schools as a cafeteria manager, having worked at most schools across the city in a career that spanned over thirty years. Her distinctive dimple and smile were infectious and would light up any room she entered. She prided herself on making every situation just a little bit better than how she found it. Joanie will forever be remembered for her gift of hospitality and her ability to make everyone feel welcomed. The funeral mass will be held on Friday March 8, 2024 at 10:30am at Resurrection Church, 1100 Creedmoor Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15226. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Arthritis Foundation at www.Arthritis.org.
