The story of
Rev. Gilbert Bonilla, Sr., 68, passed away peacefully on March 19th, 2024 at his home in Goodyear, Arizona. He was born to William and Andrea Bonilla in New York, N.Y. in May of 1955. Gilbert was a dedicated husband, father, and man of God. He gave his heart to Jesus Christ, and his life to the ministry. Although Gilbert was a retired pastor, his true passion was studying the Word of God and sharing the message of salvation anywhere he went. He never passed up the opportunity to give his testimony and share the love of God with others. Gilbert loved his grandchildren and spent most of his time with them. He also loved to paint and sketch, amongst other activities like wood carving and watching football. In 1980, Gilbert married the love of his life and they were blessed to have celebrated over 50 years together, working in the church and raising their three children, Gilbert Bonilla, Jr. (pito), James Bonilla (Jimmy) of Ocala, FL.; and Rosanna Bonilla Samunjan (Rosie) of Goodyear, AZ. He is survived by his beloved wife Ana Bonilla Hernandez; his children and their spouses Gilbert Bonilla, Jr. [Glenda], James Bonilla [Monica], Rosanna Bonilla Samunjan [Edward], and 9 grandchildren: Angelina, Santiago, Gladianis, Andrea, Mia, Joshua, Rafael and Valentina. His siblings: William Bonilla, Jr., Angel Bonilla, Tony Bonilla, George Bonilla, Mariana Bonilla, Mildred Perez and Helen Arroyo; and many nieces and nephews. Gilbert was preceded in death by his father William Bonilla, Sr., mother Andrea Bonilla, and his sister America Bonilla.
